It is wonderful when Women of all races, religions, and countries can reach across the Global Board in joining the fight against Breast Cancer. Breast cancer touches the lives of every women no matter where you live, what your race may be or your religious belief. The sad part is that it affects every single one of us.

Most people will know someone, if not many Women who will get this disease. It can be anyone, a family member, a mother, an aunt, a sister, a friend or even a co-worker who will get breast cancer. The best way to prevent Breast Cancer is to spread awareness. Early detection will give the best chance at a full recovery. Every Women out there should be making their appointment for a mammogram, in addition to checking monthly for any changes by doing a self breast exam.

Ramadan has more meaning than just fasting

Fasting gives Muslims an opportunity to practice self-control and cleanse the body and mind. Many cultures and religions use fasting for this purpose. During Ramadan, fasting helps Muslims with their spiritual devotion as well as in developing a feeling of kinship with other Muslims.
As the history goes, Ramadan is the month in which Allah contacted the prophet, Mohammed, to give him the verses of the holy book, or Qu'ran. As such, praying during Ramadan is especially important. Muslims say nightly prayers whether it is Ramadan or not, but the taraweeh, or Ramadan nightly prayer, carries additional weight.
According to scripture in the Qu'ran, "Whoever observes night prayer in Ramadan as an expression of his faith and to seek reward from Allah, his previous sins will be blotted out." Thus, the Ramadan nightly prayer, after a day of fasting, serves the purpose of eradicating the sins that have been previously committed. In this way, the nightly prayer is an important element of the rituals of Ramadan.
At the end of Ramadan and before the breaking of the fast, Muslims say takbeer. The takbeer is a statement indicating there is nothing in the world that is bigger or greater than Allah. Takbeer is always said when a Muslim completes an important task, as in the completion of the fast of Ramadan.
Translated, the takbeer exclaims, "Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, and Allah is greatest. Allah is the Greatest and all praise is due to Allah." It is recommended that men say the takbeer out loud and women say it silently. Takbeer is a sign that the festivities of Eid Al-Fitr have begun.

Words and meaning of Ramadan:

1) Taqwaa : learning self-restraint. Fasting and abstaining.

2) Takbir : glorifying Allah Almighty because of being guided. Renewing your relationship with Allah

3) Shukra : being grateful . Give to charity.

Ramadan 2009: The first day of Ramadan (fasting) in North America is expected to be August 22nd .

Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان‎), is an Islamic religious observance that takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar; the month in which the Qur'an, according to tradition, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. In the western calendar, the dates of Ramadan vary, moving forward about ten days each year. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and anything that is not of a good nature or in excess from sunrise until sunset. Ramadan is a time to fast for the sake of Allah, and to offer more prayer than usual. Muslims also believe through good actions, they get rewarded twice as much as they normally can achieve. During Ramadan, Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils, and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds. Ramadan concludes with a 3-day festival known as "Eid" or "Eid ul-Fitr," which literally means "the feast of the breaking/to break the fast." The holiday marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting and is a culmination of the month-long struggle towards a higher spiritual state. Muslims go to Mosques in new clothes to pray the first Eid prayer. They give out presents to the young ones and greet their friends and families. Special feasts are held, and food is shared with families and friends. They thank Allah (God) for what he has given them.

Marjaan will be having their 2nd Annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on August 15, 2009. The tournament will be held at Lucky Shoals Indoor Gym: 4651 Britt Road, Norcross, GA 30093. There will be two divisions: (A) ages 12-17 and (B) 18-up. People from division A can play in division B but not vice versa. The cost is $15 dollars per person which will include foods and drinks. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. For more info on this event, go to www.marjaan.org. Register your team online as soon as possible. There are only 30 slots available for teams (15 teams for Division A and 15 teams for Division B). First four teams to register from each division will play the first games. For those of you that do not know, I have started a Muslim Basket Ball League at Masjid Omar. Mashallah it is going really well. It is to raise money towards the Masjid. 100% of proceeds are going towards the masjid, and because of that we were able to help get a new regulation Basket Ball Goal, Mashallah. Thanks to those that helped to make it possible. For those that are interested in still playing in the League, I am still taking team registrations. Everyone is having so much fun and playing for a good cause. Check out the Facebook event "Basketball Summer League"

Inshallah, I will also be putting together a volleyball, badminton, and Ping Pong tournament. Please let me know if you are interested inshallah. I am also planning to put together an Adult Arabic and possibly Urdu classes, if you are interested.

Al-Falah Academy is starting on September 28 at Masjid Omar. It is a full-time School from Kindergarden through Second Grade. If you know of anyone interested we are taking applications, inshallah.

Muslim headscarves to be allowed in Georgia courtrooms

Those who walk into any Georgia courtroom will be allowed to wear head coverings, such as scarfs worn by Muslim women.

The new policy was adopted Wednesday at a meeting of the Judicial Council of Georgia, the policy-making body for Georgia courts.

This from a press release issued this afternoon:

The policy is designed to balance a court’s legitimate security concerns with a person’s right to practice his or her faith in a public place. Under the new policy, if a security officer wanted to conduct a search, the person would have the option of having the inspection performed in a private area by an officer of the same gender.

The measure stems from the December 2008 arrest of Lisa Valentine after she refused to remove her hijab, the head scarf worn by Muslim women. She said to do so would violate her faith. But Judge Keith Rollins of the Douglasville Municipal Court found her in contempt of court and ordered her to serve 10 days in jail.

The incident prompted a formal complaint from the U.S. Department of Justice. The Anti-Defamation League, Council on American-Islamic Relations and American Civil Liberties Union also lodged complaints.

On June 12th, Ms. Valentine testified before the Supreme Court of Georgia Committee on Access and Fairness in the Courts.

“If this had been a nun, no one would have required her to remove her habit,” said Chief Justice Carol Hunstein, who chairs the Judicial Council. “I think this is a good rule, and I think it’s clear.”

Specifically, the adopted policy states:

“Head coverings are prohibited from the courtroom except in cases where the covering is worn for medical or religious reasons. To the extent security requires a search of a person wearing a head covering for medical or religious reasons, the individual has the option of having the inspection performed by a same-sex officer in a private area. The individual is allowed to put his or her own head covering back on after the inspection is complete.”

Islamic Dress for Men : Yes there are Clothing Restrictions for Men

Do you know that Muslim men also have a dress code? Many people forget that there are also restrictions in Muslim men’s clothing. In Islam both men and women are told by Allah to dress modestly. Clothing restrictions are not only for Muslim women. The media has made much about clothing restrictions on women, and lately the hijab in particular has come under much scrutiny as being “scary”.

However, contrary to popular belief among many non-Muslims, Muslim men also have a dress code to follow. Men should be as modest in their appearance as women. All Muslims, whether they be male or female should try to blend in and not draw attention to themselves.

Additionally Muslim men should also wear clothing that is loose fitting enough that all parts of the body are concealed and show the bare minimum of their skin. Neither Muslim men nor women wear shorts as many people in the western world do. It is forbidden in their religion as they must conceal themselves.

While praying in a mosque, clothing should be plain and not be distracting. The Quran tells men that they should not wear silk or gold jewelry to show off their wealth. Clothing should not attract attention or be worn to show off. In addition, it is recommended that Muslim men wear a beard, no longer than a fist length and keep their hair managed and neat, When praying they should cover their heads with a kufi (mens hat) or a turban. It is recommended that a Tunic or Long Shirt be worn.

Typical clothing for men are long gowns or robes (known as jelbabs or thobes) or a salwar kameez, which is a loose long shirt worn with loose fitting pants. Fabric restrictions are also in place for Islamic men. Wearing of Silk and saffron colored clothing is forbidden for men only.

Where Islamic women can wear gold or silver jewelry, Gold jewelry is not permitted for Islamic men; they may however wear silver rings. Dress restrictions are in place not just for women, men have them too.

So in answer to the question do you know that Muslim men also have a dress code? Yes they most definitely do. Islam does not restrict only women in their dress, men are restricted also. It is in place for the self protection of all Muslims so they are respected and not seen as sex symbols and may therefore be taken seriously in society. And there is nothing wrong or “scary” about it. These restrictions have been in place for centuries.

Underscarves can change the look of a scarf or dress up an ordinary scarf for a special occasion. And of course they are good for keeping your hair in place and properly covered.

Underscarves have recently become in demand not only for those wishing to cover their hair but as a means of giving scarves a whole new look. They have become the new fashion accessory. It used to be that often ladies would cover up their underscarf entirely so it would not show.

Beware Door Hanger Advertising from Grass Roots Marketing

Stephen Koo of Grass Roots Marketing in Buford Georgia seems like a real nice honest man but do not be fooled. He promised to deliver 10,000 Door Hangers anywhere in the Atlanta Area for a discount of $350 than he lowered it to $300. It sounded like a good deal (warning bells should have been going off too good a deal). Like the other review (http://www.insiderpages.com/b/15247337008) he told us he had a crew of people working for him who would deliver them to three area mosques at our request and then the surrounding neighborhoods in the areas around our store in Lilburn. He showed us a nice door hanger in color on card stock. The rough draft was in color. The end product was on regular cheap copy paper in black and white. He only delivered a few to the mosque we attended. Only one person from this mosque brought in a flyer. No door hangers were delivered in the area surrounding our store. Our customers who live within walking distance of our store never received a flyer and we talked with three locals! He created a big drama and had a woman (probably his wife) call in to get the mosque directions for the GPS and tell us the crew was assembled waiting for Stephen to arrive. Stephen kept calling and giving us "feedback" from "his crew". Stephen himself was the only "crew member" at our mosque delivering a few flyers in person. No flyer's were put on the cars as promised. When only one person brings in a flyer and no door hangers are brought in when thousands were supposedly given out then you know they were not actually given out. A total rip off. Unfortunately he had already cashed our check and we could not stop payment. We requested a refund but it was denied. A lesson learned. But beware and stop this schemer. We are spreading the word to save others. Don't become the next victim!

The Misconceptions of Jihad

Jihad:

The Arabic word "jihad" means struggling or striving and applies to any effort exerted by anyone.

Jihad has long been used incorrectly, and is generally translated as "holy war". However,Islamic teachings show us that, it is unholy to instigate or start war; however, some wars are inevitable and justifiable. If we translate the words "holy war" back into Arabic we find "harbun muqaddasatun", or for "the holy war", "al-harbu al-muqaddasatu". The Arabic words for "war" are "harb" or "qital", which are found in the Qur'an and Hadith. We do not find jihad to translate into holy war. It is simply not the true meaning. The media has done much to incorrectly promote a jihad as a holy war.

For Muslims the term jihad has developed into different meanings. The sources of the true meanings are the Qur'an (the Word of God revealed to Prophet Muhammad(S)) and the Hadith (teachings of Prophet Muhammad(S) [(S) denotes Sall-Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam meaning peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Qur'an and the Hadith use the word "jihad" in several different contexts:

Resisting pressure to reject Islam:
"So obey not the rejecters of faith, but strive (jahidhum) against them by it (the Qur'an) with a great endeavor." 25:52

Following the correct path:
"And strive (jahidu) for Allah with the endeavor (jihadihi) which is His right. He has chosen you and has not laid upon you in the deen (religion) any hardship ..." 22:78

At another occasion a man asked the Prophet Muhammad(S):

"Should I join the jihad?" He asked, "Do you have parents?" The man said, "Yes!" The Prophet(S) said, "then strive by (serving) them!" Sahih Al-Bukhari #5972

Yet another man asked the Messenger of Allah:

"What kind of jihad is better?" He replied, "A word of truth in front of an oppressive ruler!" Sunan Al-Nasa'i #4209

The Messenger of Allah, Muhammad(S) said:

"... the mujahid (one who carries out jihad) is he who strives against himself for the sake of obeying Allah, and the muhajir (one who emigrates) is he who abandons evil deeds and sin." Sahih Ibn Hibban #4862

Fighting is allowed only to defend the religion of Islam and the Muslims:
Allah declares in the Qur'an:

"To those against whom war is made, permission is given (to defend themselves), because they are wronged - and verily, Allah is Most Powerful to give them victory - (they are) those who have been expelled from their homes in defiance of right - (for no cause) except that they say, 'Our Lord is Allah'.... " 22:39-40

The Qur'an permits fighting to defend the religion of Islam and the Muslims. This permission includes fighting in self defense and for the protection of family and property.

Muslims have freedom to inform, educate and convey the message of Islam:

Allah declares in the Qur'an:

"They ask you (Muhammad) concerning fighting in the Sacred Month. Say, 'Fighting therein is a grave (offense) but graver is it in the sight of Allah to prevent access to the path of Allah, to deny Him, to prevent access to the Sacred Mosque, and drive out its inhabitants. Persecution is worse than killing. Nor will they cease fighting you until they turn you back from your faith, if they can. ..." 2:217

"And those who, when an oppressive wrong is inflicted on them, (are not cowed but) fight back." 42:39

To gain this freedom, Prophet Muhammad(S) said:

"Strive (jahidu) against the disbelievers with your hands and tongues." Sahih Ibn Hibban #4708

The life of the Prophet Muhammad(S) was full of striving to gain the freedom to inform and convey the message of Islam. During his stay in Makkah he used non-violent methods and after the establishment of his government in Madinah, by the permission of Allah, he used armed struggle against his enemies whenever he found it inevitable.

Muslims to do not force others into Islam:

The Quran tells us:

"Let there be no compulsion (or coercion) in the religion (Islam). The right direction is distinctly clear from error." 2:256

The media has helped fan the misunderstanding of what a jihad is. However, true Muslims following the Islamic teachings of the Qur'an know what the true meaning is:

The true meaning of Jihad is a personal mission for those struggling or striving for the freedom to be Muslim and to practice their faith. It is not a "holy war" undertaken in the name of religion. It is also not a campaign to takeover the world. It is the struggle to follow Allah.

Fatwa on Swine Flu Safety

Swine Flu is spreading very fast and causing a lot of public concern in United States and other countries of the world. WHO (World Health Organization) and CDC (Center for Disease Control in US) have already issued advisories to general public. We urge Muslims to exercise necessary precautions in this matter. It is an Islamic teaching that in the situation of wide spread infections, people living in infected areas should be careful not to move around in order to avoid spreading infections. Similarly those who are healthy should avoid traveling to infested areas in order to protect themselves, unless they are needed as doctors or health workers. Allah says in the Qur’an, “Do not contribute to your destruction with your own hands…” (2:195) The Prophet –peace be upon him- said, “If you are in a land and plague breaks out there, then do not leave that place. If you are told that it is spreading in some land and you are not there, then do not go there.” (Muslim, Hadith no. 5731)

In the light of these instructions the Fiqh Council of North America emphasizes that Muslims should take CDC advisories seriously. Those who are affected by any symptoms of this flu should avoid shaking hands and coming into close contacts with others. They are allowed in this situation to pray at home and do not go to the Masjid for congregational prayers, until they are healthy. The Prophet –peace be upon him- said, “A sick person (with contagious disease) must not be brought among the healthy.” (Abu Dau’ud, Hadith 3911)

In case there is a Swine Flu pandemic, public assemblies might be curtailed. In that situation it will be allowed for the Masajid to issue special instructions regarding Jama’ah (congregational) and Jumu’ah (Friday) prayers considering the general welfare of their communities and cooperating with local authorities to maintain public health and safety.

We must also make individual and collective du’a asking Allah to remove this affliction and bless us all.

Dressing Modestly is Beautiful and if you want a Britain's opinion just ask Susan Boyle. Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle has created a sensation with her beautiful voice and Modest dress. The media wants her to have a makeover. What is wrong with dressing Modestly? Dressing Modestly is beautiful and there is no reason for Susan Boyle to change, she is lovely just the way she is.

The media thinks everyone agrees with them. Muslims are just some of those who don't. Even non-Muslims are asking retailers to please make modest clothing. It is just crazy that people think you cannot be beautiful by dressing Modestly. It is just not true. It is more important what is in your heart than what is shown outside to the world.

Allah, God, Buddha, whomever you believe most will agree that you should dress conservatively. The Media needs to change.

If nothing else may the rest of us learn from Susan Boyle that dressing Modestly is just fine. Maybe the media will catch on with this idea, anything is possible.

Gender Equality Between American Muslim Men and Women

The report reveals that Muslim American women are one of the most highly educated female religious groups in the United States, second only to Jewish American women. In addition, as a group, Muslim Americans have the highest degree of economic gender parity at the high and low ends of the income spectrum.

Way to go Muslim Women ! American Muslim men and women also reported to have similar monthly household income. Very interesting poll. It looks like Muslim Women are doing much better in the United States and reaping much more benefits due to the Gender Equality enjoyed in the United States. Good news for those immigrating to the US and for future generations.

Muslim American women are equally as likely as men to say they attend mosque at least once a week, which stands in sharp contrast to the trend seen in some predominantly Muslim countries where men are more likely than women to report attending a religious service in the last week.

The freedom American Muslim Women enjoy definitely has its benefits. Many countries are still following old time standards which basically hold back Women. It is good to see that Muslim Women have gained the same rights as other American Women have. It just goes to prove that Women are and should equal to Men. Gender makes no difference in how smart you are and when Women have the same education as Men do they are equally intelligent as Men.

The 70's in the United States brought much in helping American Women obtain these rights and Muslim American Women are enjoying those same rights. Perhaps the Middle Eastern Countries will eventually catch up and update their strict rules that are holding their Women back. The United States is helping to prove that given the chance these Mid Eastern Women could definitely measure up to the Mid Eastern Men.

Can Middle Eastern Men handle it? Can Middle Eastern Women gain the respect, education and rights that American Muslim Women enjoy? Here's hoping they do. It is only fair and after all American Muslim Women are paving the way by showing other countries that they can.

This is an interesting site if you are having any problems. Some ladies have had trouble at work and are told they need to choose either the hijab or their job. This is not right and is against their Civil liberties. There was also a recent case in Atlanta where a judge had a women escorted out for refusing to take off her hijab. This is simply not right. Wearing a hijab should not be different than wearing any other article of clothing or accessories like jewelry or a head band. ‘I cannot obey Him in public and disobey Him in private’

THE grandfather of Abu ‘Abdullah Bin Zayd Bin Aslam narrated an interesting incident during the rule of Umar Bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him):

Once when I was accompanying Umar Bin Al-Khattab on his patrol of Madina at night, it so happened that he leaned against a wall (to rest) when he felt tired. It was midnight, and (we heard) a woman say to her daughter, “O my daughter, get up and mix that milk with some water.”

The girl said, “O mother, did you not hear the decree of Amir Al-Mu’minin (chief of the believers) today?”

The mother said, “What was that?”

The girl said, “He ordered someone to announce in a loud voice that milk should not be mixed with water.”

The mother said, “Get up and mix the milk with water; you are in a place where Umar cannot see you.”

The girl told her mother, “I cannot obey Him (Allah) in public and disobey Him in private.”

Umar heard this, and told me: “O Aslam, go to that place and see who that girl is, and to whom she was speaking, and whether she has a husband.” So I went to that place, and I saw that she was unmarried, the other woman was her mother, and neither of them had a husband.

I came to Umar and told him what I had found out. He called his sons together, and said to them: “Do any of you need a wife, so I can arrange the marriage for you? If I had the desire to get married, I would have been the first one to marry this young woman.”

Abdullah said: “I have a wife.” Abdur-Rahman said: “I have a wife.” ‘Asim said: “I do not have a wife, so let me marry her.” So Umar arranged for her to be married to ‘Asim. The woman gave birth to a daughter, who grew up to be the mother of Umar Bin Abdul Aziz.

(Sifat Al-Safwah, Wafiyat Al-A’yan and cited by Ibn Al-Jawzi in Ahkam Al-Nisa’ pg. 441, 442)

Note: Umar Bin Abdul Aziz is the one of the most respected caliphs for his honesty, justice and devoutness, after the four rightly-guided caliphs.

Cure for arrogance

In continuation of the earlier topic “Hues of Arrogance” here are Islamic remedies for this disease of the heart with the steps one can take to develop humility towards Allah and His creation to stem the disease of arrogance and to increase humility:

Know Allah

What has knowing Allah got to do with arrogance? Everything. The one who truly recognizes his Creator, and learns about His exalted names and attributes, embraces reality. He knows with conviction how great his Lord is, and how absolutely insignificant his own self is.

He knows that Allah created him, fashioned him, brought him into this world, gave him sustenance and bestowed upon him strength after the frailty of infancy and childhood. Allah has revealed about Himself in the Qur’an and once someone truly knows Allah, he cannot harbor arrogance in his heart for long.

Allah’s signs

The most powerful people who ever lived – with extraordinary physical or mental strength – all become weak with the passage of time. Great scholars or professors can one day suffer from amnesia or Alzheimer’s. Even the man who played the fictional “Superman” – the idol of many young boys – suffered a crippling fall, withered and died before their very eyes.

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Allah looks neither at your figures, nor at your outward appearance, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds.” (Sahih Muslim)

This should remind us that each and every little blessing we have – from our looks, to our wealth, to our abilities and talents – is solely from Allah. Our achievements are not the product of our own selves, they are a result of whatever talent Allah blessed us with combined with the effort He guided us to undertake. Not only that, He can take them away whenever He wants, even in a split second.

A beauty queen can lose her perfect body and beauty to a disease (just a passing reference to the recent death of a 20-year-old Brazilian model, who died within two months of contracting a mysterious disease).

A strong wrestler might suffer an accident that could render him invalid. Taking lessons from these will Insha Allah bring humility in us.

“Did they then feel secure against the Plan of Allah. None feels secure from the Plan of Allah except the people who are the losers.” (Qur’an, 7:99)

Wear ordinary clothes

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever gives up wearing elegant and expensive garments out of humbleness, when he can do so, Allah will call him on the Day of Resurrection and before all the creations, He will give him the choice to wear whichever garment of ‘Iman‘ he would like to wear.” (Al-Tirmidhi)

Everything is temporary

Remember: whatever you have – or whoever you are – will cease to exist one day. The life of this world is fleeting; everything in it, whether it is a source of happiness or misery, will be gone one day.

Only memories and stories will remain, remembered as ‘history’. So if you have something that makes you swell with pride, just remind yourself that it will be dead and gone one day. Just like you.

“Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish. And the Face of your Lord full of Majesty and Honour will abide forever.” (Qur’an, 55:27)

Admit your mistakes

It might take a huge effort at first, but try to develop humility by hearing the other person out, even if you are right or better in opinion. Develop the ability to look at things from their point of view, which will make you a gentler and more empathetic person; more approachable and likeable.

Also, if you are among the older generation (say, above 50) and for the most part of your life, you have been telling the younger lot what to do and how to do it, accede to the fact that now they are adults; maybe acknowledging your own shortcomings before them, and occasionally acquiescing to their wishes won’t really belittle you before them. On the contrary, it might just make you more honorable.

Be quick to apologize

It takes a lot of strength to not just admit your mistake, but to go one step ahead and apologize to those you’ve wronged, whether it happened intentionally or not. Asking another person to forgive you is a sign of humility, one that very few strong individuals can muster up the guts to acquire.

Befriend poor people

A humble person always compares himself to those lower than him in worldly status. For this reason, he is constantly concerned about their well-being and prosperity. Think: “If we can not afford a rented apartment, what about those who are homeless?”

You will find humble people sharing their meals with the poor, giving away clothes to them, paying their medical bills, or often asking about their well-being.

In short, instead of always spending time with the elite at lavish soirees featuring arrays of expensive food, couture and decor, eat at times vegetables on bran whilst sitting on the floor with servants.

Greet people first

“So-and-so’s daughter is such a Miss high-and-mighty! What does she think of herself? Whenever she sees me, she averts her eyes. She doesn’t greet me, even though I am old enough to be her mother.”

Maybe you can teach her what she’s missing by practicing what you preach? What’s stopping you from greeting her with a warm, motherly smile?

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Do not disdain any good deed, even your meeting with your brother (Muslim) with a cheerful face.” (Sahih Muslim)

Remember your origin

“Was he not a Nutfah (mixed male and female discharge of semen) poured forth? Then he became a clot; then (Allah) shaped and fashioned (him) in due proportion.” (Qur’an, 75:37-38)

The IslamQA team bluntly describes this: “Another remedy (for arrogance) is to remember that he and urine came out of the same place; that he began as a despised drop of sperm and he will end up as a rotten corpse, and that in between he is a vessel for feces. So what does he have to feel so proud and arrogant about?!”

Take account

Every day, when you retire for the night, mentally recount how many wrong things you did during the day. After that, proceed to sincerely ask Allah for forgiveness. This daily activity will ensure that you stay focused on your own errors and weaknesses, paving the way for consistent humility and a gentler attitude towards the mistakes of others.

Humility: Path to Paradise

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Shall I not inform you about those who are entitled to Paradise? It is every person who is modest and humble (before Allah), a person who is accounted weak and is looked down upon, but if he swears (hoping for Allah’s Bounty), Allah will certainly give him what he desires. Now shall I not inform you about the inmates of Hell? It is every violent, impertinent and proud man.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

We are a small family business, where many other sites are a larger Company. We really care about our customers and are willing to go the extra mile. We offer Clothing and Accessories for the Entire Family. Many sites feature mostly items for Women. We also offer both High Quality Merchandise and Affordable Prices. Many other sites price their merchandise at a much higher cost. We also offer a nice variety of items and sell more than just clothing.

Is starting your own website a large risk?

Yes, starting your own website is a large risk. They are so many websites and big companies out there on the web that the competition is tremendous. But if you want to own and run your own business you have to be willing to take some risks. If you are not willing to take a risk than you may never see your dream of owning your own business become reality. Some risks are worth taking.

Scam reported from the Small Business Administration

The Small Business Administration issued a scam alert that letters are being sent out on official looking letterhead purporting to be from the SBA telling small-business owners they might be eligible for tax rebates under the Economic Stimulus plan. The letter asks the business owner to send in their bank account information and the SBA is advising Small Business not to respond or send any information out. These letters are fraud and did not come from their office.

This is another scam to try and get money and empty bank accounts from unsuspecting victims. It is unfortunate that during these hard economic times people are still out there scamming and have chosen to target small business owners who may be barely staying afloat just shows the extent these scammers are willing to go to.

If you receive a letter purporting to be from the SBA you are being asked to contact the SBA through email at OIGHotline@sba.gov and send them any information you have. By working together hopefully we can catch these scammers before Small Business Owners loose their bank accounts.

Common Misconceptions about Muslim Mid Eastern Clothing

We wanted to clear up a few common misconceptions about Muslim Mid Eastern Clothing. To begin with you do not need to be Muslim or Mid Eastern to wear Mid Eastern Clothing. Anyone can wear the clothing, it is just clothing. If you have heard the recent publicity surrounding celebrities and others wearing the Ghutra for example, you will see that anyone can wear this style of clothing.

While the clothing is native to Mid Eastern people most of whom are Muslim, it is not tied to the Muslim religion. In fact there are some Mid Eastern people who are Christian, and they still wear many of the clothing particularly the Mens and Ladies Salwar Kameez Suit outfits and scarves.

Many Christians also wear scarves to cover their head, like Mary did. Nuns also will often cover their head with a scarf. Amish people cover their heads and so do Jewish people. Other people cover their head for Fashion, like Rappers or Cowboys for example.

Many people of various religions and of different regions including the United States and Britian, prefer to wear modest clothing that does not show off their assets. Modesty is often a personal decision that may or may not have roots in religion or region of birth. Some people prefer to be modestly covered and do not like to draw attention to themselves. Some will also wear the clothing for comfort as most of it is quite comfortable. Many wear it simply because it is beautiful, with its unique designs and lovely embroidery that put some big names in the Fashion Industry to shame.

Secondly wearing Muslim (Islamic) Mid Eastern clothing does not make people feel you are being disrespectful of their religion. They understand you are not mocking them, and enjoy seeing all people in Mid Eastern Muslim dress. Some people will also wear the clothing if they are in a play or other Theatre production and may also wear the clothing for a school project.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to wear this fashion of clothing. And while there may be a few people who may not approve, like everything else in life there are some people that you cannot please who will take offense at any and everything. But for the most part that is a small percentage of people.

So whether you wear Muslim Mid Eastern style clothing for reasons of religion, region of birth, fashion or just for the fun of wearing it; Go ahead, its just clothing, anyone can wear it We certainly do not mind.

Ghutra a New Fashion Statement but not really a New Trend!

The latest in Celebrity Fashion is currently the Ghutra or Shemagh. This is a scarf that is usually red and white or black and white with a diamond print or also in plain white, but also comes in many other colors and prints. While it may seem to some like a new fashion trend the Ghutra has been around for centuries as part of traditional dress. This traditional head scarf was originally made for men to wear to protect themselves from the hot sun in Saudia Arabia and other mid eastern countries. It is held in place with an Igal or an Egal which is a black cord made of wool or camel hair which sits on top of the head. Recently, it has turned into a fashion statement with many celebrities both men and women, wearing it as a scarf wrapped around their neck. Common Muslim terminology is shown below. Due to different countries and their regional language or terminology, there often are different names or spellings used for the same clothing. That is why some terms have more than one name shown.

Abaya

An Abaya is a robe or dress that Muslim women wear over their clothing to cover their body shapes as instructed in the Islamic religion.

Jilbab or Jelbab

Jilbabs are also a robe or dress but have a more western look and are more fashionable to wear. Most Muslim women wear a Jilbab over their clothing to cover their body shapes as instructed in the Islamic religion.

Niqab or Niquab

Niqab is a garment that enables Muslim women to cover their faces from non-mahram men. Niqab is widely used by Muslim women who believe in the Islamic teachings of covering ones face also (besides the head and hair) from non-mahram men.

Long Blouses, Kurtas & Tunics

Muslim women dress modestly and do not reveal their bodies by wearing tight clothing that reveals body shapes and Muslim contours. Women prefer wearing long tops and blouses over pants to cover the hip and waist area. These are often called Kurtas or Tunics.

Thobe, Jelbab or Dishdasha

Men also wear Jilbabs or Thobes to cover themselves properly as instructed in the Islamic religion. These are also often refered to as a Dishdasha.

Kufi
